Terms of use
The rules that apply when you use this site. The short version: the site informs, it does not replace legal or regulatory advice, and the demo products are fictional.
This is an English translation of the French version, which is the original. If the two differ, you may rely on whichever version is more favourable to you.
Who publishes this site
The site is published by Nitide, a business based in Montreal, Quebec, founded by Matteo Jam. To reach us: contact@nitide.ca.

Information, not professional advice
Our guides and pages explain GS1 barcodes, ECCnet, the GS1 QR code and food labelling. This is general information. It is not legal or regulatory advice, and it does not replace advice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, GS1 Canada or a lawyer about your situation.
Rules and programs change. Each guide gives its update date and its sources: check them before you make a decision, for example before you print packaging.
Reading the site does not make you a client. Our services are covered by a separate written contract with its own terms. Nothing on this site guarantees that a retailer will list your products.
The demo products are fictional
Pot Témoin and the other products in the demo range do not exist. They are not for sale. Their pages only show how a GS1 QR code and a product page work.
Their product numbers (GTINs) are example numbers. 09506000134352 is a number GS1 itself uses in its demonstrations: its prefix, 950, belongs to GS1 Global Office. The others start with 952, a prefix GS1 sets aside for demonstrations and examples. Do not use these numbers on a real product.
Intellectual property
The text, illustrations, design, site code, the Nitide name and its logo belong to Nitide unless stated otherwise. You may read the site, print it for your own use, share its links and quote short excerpts with the source named. To reproduce a whole page or use our content commercially, ask us first.
GS1, ECCnet and the other names and marks mentioned on the site belong to their owners. Nitide is an independent business: it is not GS1 Canada and does not speak on its behalf.
Links to other sites
The site links to other sites, mostly our sources (GS1, public bodies, statutes). We do not control their content. They have their own terms and their own privacy policies.
Liability
We take care to publish accurate information, but an error or an out-of-date detail is always possible. If you find one, write to us and we will fix it.
In Quebec, the following paragraph does not apply to a consumer within the meaning of the Consumer Protection Act.
To the extent the law allows, Nitide is not liable for injury resulting from a decision made solely on the strength of the site's general information, or from an interruption of the site.
This limit never applies to bodily or moral injury, or to material injury caused by an intentional or gross fault: the Civil Code of Québec forbids excluding that liability. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms reduces the rights the Consumer Protection Act gives you.
Availability of the site
We may change or remove pages, guides and demos without notice. The site may also be interrupted, for example during an update or an outage at our host.
Your personal information
How we handle your personal information is explained in our privacy policy.
If these terms change
We publish the new version on this page, with its date. It changes nothing about what happened before.
In Quebec, the next sentence does not apply to a consumer. The new version applies to your use of the site from the day it is published.
Governing law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. A dispute about the site falls under the courts of Quebec, in the judicial district of Montreal, unless the law allows you to go to another court.
If you are a consumer, these terms do not force you into arbitration and do not limit your right to go to court. If you are domiciled or resident in Quebec, you can always go to the Quebec courts.
If a clause in these terms is found to be null, the others continue to apply.
French original and translation
These terms were written in French. This English version is a translation provided for convenience. If the two differ, you may rely on whichever one is more favourable to you, as section 91 of the Charter of the French language provides.
